Mary Jo Burks, 77, of Helena, Arkansas passed away Sabbatum, January 24, 2009 in Memphis, Tennessee. Mrs. Burks was born January 4, 1932 in Blytheville, Arkansas.
She was the girl of the tardily Coady Delmar and Mary Alice Eaton and step-daughter of Robert A. Schmalz. She graduated from Blytheville High School and attended Hendrix College on a voice scholarship.
Mary Jo married Patrick R. Burks in September, 1953 and they moved to Helena in 1963, purchasing Planters Service Company from Chapman Chemical. She worked alongside Pat building the company and helping to guide it through many changes until her retirement in 1994.
Besides her husband, she leaves a girl, Rhonnie Crowley and her husband Gene of Helena; a grandson, Bernie Crowley of Helena; a granddaughter, Charlee Jo Crowley of Cabot, Arkansas; 13 nephews and 10 nieces; a foster son, Gary Burks and wife Ciri of Barton, Arkansas.
Visitation for Mrs. Burks volition exist Tuesday, January 27, 2009 from half-dozen p.m. until 8 p.m. at the home located at 6249 Highway 44, Helena. Funeral services for Mrs. Burks will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Get-go United Methodist Church in Helena. Reverend Doctor Rockey Starnes of Searcy, formerly of Helena, and Reverend Carolyn Doering of the First United Methodist Church building will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Helena.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Roland Warrington, Eddie Lee Warrington, Robert Ankrum, Albert Hollingsworth, John Hollingsworth and Jason Warrington.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the American Center Association, Greater Southeast Affiliate, Attn: Memorials, 1101 Northchase Parkway, Suite i, Marietta, GA. 30067 or to the Phillips County Humane Order, P.O. Box 3218, West Helena, AR. 72390.

I am very sadden to hear of Mary Jo's passing. I have such proficient memories of her when I was a child. My thoughts and prayers are with Pat and Rhonnie. Although she was much older than I, she and Rhonda were the only two cousins I knew when I was growing up. Mary Jo will always have a special identify in my eye.
